About the Procedure Itself

Your facelift will be performed under general anesthesia and as an outpatient procedure. In most cases, a facelift takes between two and four hours to complete. Before the procedure, Dr. Fisher will give you detailed aftercare instructions, and we’ll make sure you have everything you need to feel comfortable throughout the process. Most patients are able to resume their normal routine after about two weeks, once the swelling and bruising have completely subsided.

Facelift Recovery

After your facelift, you’ll likely be observed for a couple of hours, but you should be able to go home on the same day as the surgery. It’s normal to experience soreness, swelling, and bruising around the face for the first few weeks of your recovery, and Dr. Fisher will likely prescribe you pain medication.

You should stay in bed for the first 12 hours after your procedure. Afterward, you can sit in a chair and gradually walk around the house. You should wait about two weeks for optimal healing before returning to your normal daily activities. As for strenuous exercise, Dr. Fisher advises waiting at least four to six weeks.

There are several things you can do to ensure that your facelift recovery goes as quickly and smoothly as possible:

  • Follow all of Dr. Fisher’s advice and instructions for recovery
  • Avoid bending over or lifting heavy objects for two weeks
  • Sleep with your head elevated
  • Protect your face from the sun
  • Moisturize your face daily
  • Maintain a healthy diet
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Keep yourself hydrated
  • Contact Dr. Fisher immediately if any complications arise during your recovery.

Complete Rejuvenation

A facelift alone can deliver long-lasting results. However, Dr. Fisher believes that facial rejuvenation requires restoration of facial harmony. To address all aspects of facial aging, Dr. Fisher often performs a facelift with complementary procedures such as eyelid surgery, lip lift, facial fat grafting, and laser skin resurfacing. Your consultation is the perfect time to discuss which procedures are best suited to restore your facial balance and rejuvenate your look.

Why Get a Facelift in Connecticut?

People choose to get facelifts for various reasons, and the decision to get a facelift in Connecticut or anywhere else is a personal one. Some common reasons why people may consider getting a facelift include:

  • Anti-Aging: Many individuals opt for facelifts to reduce the visible signs of aging such as wrinkles, sagging skin, and fine lines.

Facelift FAQ

Take a look at some of the questions we see most frequently about facelifts.

What is a deep plane facelift?

Are my results going to be permanent?

Will I need to stay at the hospital?

What kind of scarring can I expect?

What if I’m not an ideal candidate?

What is a deep plane facelift?

A deep plane facelift is an advanced facelifting technique that avoids the problem of the tight, overfilled look of many modern facelifts. The main tenet of the deep plane facelift is that it lifts only under the muscle layer, leaving the skin attached to the muscle layers, so it can never look too tight. It also lifts the cheeks by releasing the tethering points of the face in the deep plane, thus restoring their natural volume. A deep plane facelift delivers a long lasting, natural result that cannot be matched by other techniques.

Are my results going to be permanent?

Most facelifts last about 10 years, but this varies from person to person and depends a lot on lifestyle choices such as sun exposure and skincare. A facelift can “turn back the clock” to restore a more youthful appearance but does not stop the aging process.

Will I need to stay at the hospital?

A facelift is an outpatient procedure, so you’ll be able to head home or to an area hotel after a brief stay in our recovery area. You will be accompanied by a member of our experienced nursing staff to ensure you have a restful first night. Our nurses are experienced in taking care of facelift patients and will make sure you are safe and comfortable.

What kind of scarring can I expect?

Most facelift patients have a scar that is imperceptible once healed. Dr. Fisher will thoroughly explain what you can expect in terms of scarring. Most facelift incisions are easily hidden by the hairline.

What if I’m not an ideal candidate?

In some cases, patients might benefit from a different type of treatment. If a facelift isn’t the right choice for you, Dr. Fisher can still offer a number of alternative treatments that can help to refresh and rejuvenate your facial appearance.

  • Facial Fat Transfer utilizes fat harvested from your very own body for a safe and natural facial rejuvenation procedure.
  • Botox & Dysport work to mitigate the presence of lines and wrinkles by interacting with the muscles that cause them in the first place.
  • Dermal Fillers work to improve your facial appearance by adding volume and encouraging your skin to retain more moisture.
