Is Laser Skin Resurfacing Right for Me?

Our patients especially love laser skin resurfacing for its ability to address a number of skin-related issues. By addressing issues well beyond simple fine lines and wrinkles, this procedure truly nourishes your skin from the inside out and creates results that last for quite some time. Even more impressive is the fact that all of this is accomplished without any invasive surgery, or significant downtime.

You’re likely to be a great candidate for treatment with the AcuPulse fractional laser resurfacing system if you’re looking to address:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Uneven tone or texture
  • Blemishes
  • Acne scarring
  • Enlarged pores

Patients with lighter skin tones make the best candidates for laser resurfacing. During your consultation, we will ask you to fill out a questionnaire that will categorize your skin into a specific type.

Ablative laser resurfacing is not a good idea if you have active acne, as it can become more inflamed. Ablative laser resurfacing is also not recommended for darker skin tones, as post-procedure discoloration is more likely.

If you have a darker skin tone and want to improve your skin appearance, consider a non-ablative treatment such as ResurFX, microneedling, or chemical peels

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

Just before your laser skin resurfacing treatment, a member of Dr. Mark Fisher’s team will apply a topical or local anesthetic to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure. After cleaning the skin and placing protective eye shields, the Lumenis AcuPulse system will be used to deliver a specific wavelength of laser energy to your skin at a depth that has been specified by Dr. Fisher.

Most patients will feel a warm sensation in the areas being treated, and some may experience the sensation of a small rubber band being snapped. After treatment, your skin will feel warm, almost like a sunburn. You will get specific instructions for post-treatment care. The whole process takes between 30 minutes to one hour, depending on your treatment area. Dr. Fisher will be able to customize your treatment according to your goals and skin type.

Recovery After Your Laser Resurfacing

Your recovery will vary according to the intensity of your treatment, and Dr. Fisher will be sure that you know exactly what to expect from your treatment. You’ll be given detailed aftercare instructions, and it will be important that you avoid sun exposure immediately following your procedure. You’ll begin to notice your results within two or three weeks of your first session, and most patients are able to enjoy their full results within six to eight weeks.
