Dr. Fisher offers a wide range of methods by which you can enjoy the silhouette of your dreams, both surgical and non-surgical in nature. You’re likely a great candidate for the tummy tuck if you:

  • Have an abdomen that is loose, sagging, or bulging after childbirth
  • Have recently lost a significant amount of weight
  • Are dealing with a separation of the stomach muscles (diastasis recti)
  • Are in good overall health
  • Are not currently smoking
  • Do not plan on having future children

Tummy Tuck FAQs

Take a look at some of the questions our patients most frequently ask before undergoing a tummy tuck procedure. If you still have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out and set up a consultation with Dr. Fisher at our Westport location.

What type of anesthesia will be used?

Can the tummy tuck be combined with other procedures?

What kind of scarring will I have?

How long until I can exercise or do yoga?

What type of anesthesia will be used?

A tummy tuck is performed under general anesthesia, so you’ll be fully asleep during the procedure. You’ll wake up and rest for a bit in our recovery room, before being able to return home (with a friend to drive you).

Can the tummy tuck be combined with other procedures?

It absolutely can. A tummy tuck is often included as part of a mommy makeover procedure, and it can also be combined with liposuction for truly enhanced results.

What kind of scarring will I have?

Dr. Fisher works to create incisions that are well hidden by your underwear or bathing suit. The goal is to create elegant and naturalistic results that never make it apparent that cosmetic work has been done. During your consultation, Dr. Fisher will carefully explain your incision placement to you, so you’ll know exactly what to expect after your procedure is complete.

How long until I can exercise or do yoga?

Most patients need to wait at least six to eight weeks before resuming their exercise routines. Yoga similarly strains the abdominal muscles, so it’s important to wait a similar amount of time before this activity is resumed. During your consultation, you’ll be able to thoroughly explore your recovery timeline with Dr. Fisher, and he’ll advise you on when you can resume any specific activities.

Tummy Tuck Surgery

Your tummy tuck will be performed under general anesthesia and will take between two and three hours depending on the specifics of your customized surgical plan. During your consultation, Dr. Fisher will help you understand exactly what to expect from the procedure.

Depending on the specific goals of your surgery, Dr. Fisher will work to sculpt and tone your abdominal area. This typically involves some combination of a few different techniques, with Dr. Fisher putting his extensive training to work.

Excess fat will be removed using liposuction, while extra skin is trimmed away. Dr. Fisher will then tighten your abdominal muscles into a tighter, more toned position, and will also reposition the belly button as necessary. The result will be a flatter, firmer abdomen, and a new, narrower waistline.

Your Recovery Period

You’ll experience some swelling and discomfort in the treatment area after your surgery, and we’ll ensure that you have the medication needed to stay comfortable in the days following your procedure. Dr. Fisher and his team will give you detailed instructions for aftercare. Most patients are able to resume their regular routines after about six to eight weeks of recovery.
